Offspring is centred on 30-something obstetrician Nina Proudman and her family and friends, as they navigate the chaos of modern life. It is filmed in Melbourne’s inner north.
Last week Zara announced that she slept with her Doctor Angus Freeman, who by the way almost slept with Nina earlier in the season. This week Jimmy and Zara are dealing with the ramifications which, depending on your views on marriage, was an interesting coping mechanism. Zara enters the Proudman house then the scene cuts to Jimmy and Zara after a quickie.
Nina is about to start the day when she is confronted by Harry, who only last week called her a disaster. Oh, Harry, we like you too. Queue classic awkward Nina. she drops the files on the floor.
Billie is having a tough time since Brodie left with her mum, but she is persistent and strong-willed.
Billie Proudman Power Pose. Wonder Woman
Based on the advertisements that Channel Ten has played all week I was convinced that it involved Zoe (Nina’s daughter) and in a way I was right just not in the way that I thought.
New Proudman brother Will agrees to babysit niece Zoe and they were sitting at the table painting, adorably, when a knock at the door interrupts them. Standing at the door is Billie’s boss Kerry Green who cons on to Billie’s grand plan to set them up. I thought that their matchmaking connection would distract enough for Zoe to go missing however that dramatic reveal was underwhelming simplistic. The heart-breaking reveal was that Zoe had taken some of the paints into her room at decorated the family photos and I noticed, intentionally or not, that the only faces that were not painted over where the family members that young Zoe recognised. As devastating it was for Nina seeing her daughter painting over her dead father’s photos it seemed not are dramatic as I was expecting for a finale episode.
When Brodie comes back to town she is suffering symptoms of Braxton-Hicks contractions, but not is all what it seems. QUEUE the DRAMA. This is the moment the episode definitely picked up.
Nina has a freakout
What are you doing Nina?
Adults only announcement
The episode ending with mother Geraldine waking up after what had clearly been an adults-only night only for the camera to pan out and reveal Renato on one side and Margery on the other. Ending a family drama with the mother having a threesome was not a great send off. In the middle of the episode fine, but not at the end where it leaves you with strange picture. We should have ended on Nina, she is the lead character.
